 Training objectives and advantages
Participants will:
• recognize typical behavior stereotypes that do not achieve results;
• tactfully defend their own interests;
• master the techniques to resist undesirable influence;
• react to assertively to criticism;
• control their emotions.

Training program
Module 1. Efficient and inefficient behavior in «difficult» situations. Assertive behavior as a civilized method of resolving issues:
• situations when assertive behavior is necessary: interaction with people of a higher status, influencing without authority, defending own position, etc. ;
• typical behavior in “difficult” situations: aggressive, passive, passive-aggressive, and its consequences. Express test;
• assertiveness as an internal feeling and behavior style. Indicators of assertive behavior;
• causes of uncertainty and excessive conflict. Understanding the individual characteristics of a partner in shared interactions.

Module 2. Respectful persuasion. Assertive influencing techniques:
• methods of reasoning and counter-reasoning. Selecting a reasoning method that corresponds specifically to your partner. Techniques: “I – statement”. Consistently defending own interest without putting pressure on a partner. One of the methods used to prompt a partner to change positions;
• techniques: “Disk, spoiled by playing”. Ability to promote own idea without sufficient reasoning. Techniques: “Refusing respectfully”. How to say “no”, in a way that does not offend interlocutors.

Module 3. Psychological self-defense. Ways of reacting to non-constructive behavior. Managing emotions:
• pressure, criticism – now to manage it? Controlling own emotional status. Technique: “Game in a fog”;
• the “British Professor’s Technique” as a method of respectful self-defense;
• “Constructive switching” – transfer from critical remarks to resolving a situation. “Two-pass combination”;
• manipulation. How to identify when somebody is trying to manipulate you and how to respond. Technique “Breaking manipulation”.

Module 4. Interacting with «indignant» opponents/clients:
• algorithm for working with indignant opponents/clients. Important steps in working with negative clients. Quickly suppressing conflict;
• positive language in communication: “I will find out” instead of “I don’t know”;
• the golden rule of communication.

Methodology of training delivery
This course is highly applicable and each assertive behavior technique is practiced on an individual basis with the use of video-taping and analysis. The course begins with a game in which each participant can identify his/her own level of assertiveness.
